Method Statement for Installation of Domestic Water Supply Copper Pipework

Overview

This method statement provides detailed procedures for the installation of domestic water supply copper pipework in residential and commercial buildings. It covers pipe sizing, jointing methods, support requirements, and testing protocols to ensure a reliable water distribution system.

Materials and Standards

All copper piping shall conform to ASTM B88 specifications. Type L copper shall be used for domestic water supply lines. Fittings shall be wrought copper or cast bronze, suitable for the working pressure of the system.

Installation Procedures

  • Verify pipe routing against approved plumbing drawings
  • Cut copper pipe square and ream to remove burrs
  • Clean pipe ends and fittings before soldering
  • Apply flux and assemble joints
  • Solder joints using 95/5 tin-antimony solder
  • Install pipe supports at maximum 1.8m intervals
  • Install isolation valves at each fixture connection
  • Pressure test system at 1.5 times working pressure

Testing and Commissioning

The completed copper pipework system shall be hydrostatically tested at 1.5 times the design pressure for a minimum of 2 hours with no visible leakage. All test results shall be documented and approved by the engineer before concealment.
