Overview
This method statement covers the formwork installation for concrete structures. It includes procedures for formwork design, installation, inspection, and removal.
Scope of Work
The scope includes design, fabrication, installation, and removal of formwork for columns, beams, slabs, walls, and other concrete elements as per approved drawings.
Materials
- Plywood formwork panels (18mm minimum thickness)
- Steel or timber props and soldiers
- Tie rods and wing nuts
- Formwork oil (release agent)
- Sealant for joints
- Chamfer strips
Equipment
- Saw for cutting formwork
- Drill for tie rod holes
- Level and measuring tools
- Crane or hoist for large panels
- Scaffolding for access
Step-by-Step Procedure
1. Formwork Design
Design formwork to withstand concrete pressure and construction loads. Verify design calculations. Obtain approval before fabrication.
2. Fabrication
Cut and assemble formwork panels as per design. Install chamfer strips at corners. Apply formwork oil to contact surfaces.
3. Installation
Erect formwork in correct position and alignment. Install props and bracing. Ensure all joints are tight and sealed. Install tie rods at specified spacing.
4. Inspection
Check alignment, plumb, and dimensions before concreting. Verify all props are properly seated. Ensure reinforcement is correctly positioned and covered.
5. Concreting
Monitor formwork during concrete placement. Check for any movement or leakage. Vibrate concrete properly to avoid honeycombing.
6. Formwork Removal
Remove formwork only after concrete has achieved sufficient strength. Follow specified stripping sequence. Handle formwork carefully to avoid damage.
Quality Control
Verify formwork dimensions against drawings. Check alignment and plumb before each pour. Maintain formwork cleanliness between uses.
Health & Safety
All personnel shall wear appropriate PPE. Use proper lifting techniques for heavy formwork panels. Ensure safe access for workers at height. Follow fall protection procedures.
