PROTECTION WORK TO SUBSTRUCTURE
1.0 OBJECTIVE
1.1 Is to define the requirements for the supply and fixing of substructure protection works for the building foundations under the contract no GTC.101/ED/01 Engineering, Procurement, Installation and Commissioning (EPIC) of Ras Laffan Utilization Project –Buildings and utilities and support service Phase 1-Utilities.
2.0 SCOPE
2.1 For the building foundations at Base Area, New Service Berth in Berth Area Telecom building and FSO Marine.

4.0 PROCEDURE
- Approval from QP should be obtained for the following materials before commencing the protection work: Bituthene 1000HC, Bitu Primer, Bitumen impregnated hard board.
- The sample should be kept at site for QP reference.
- The surface over which the protection works to be carriedout is to be cleaned and free from impurities.
- The surface preparation has to be approved by QP engineer before proceeding further work.
- Bitu Primer has to be applied on the surface and allow to dry before application of Bituthene 1000HC.
- Over the surface Bituthene 1000HC membrane protection layer to be laid.
- All the joints shall be over lapped by 100 mm.
- Request for Inspection should be applied for QP engineer to witness the laying of Bituthene 1000HC.
- Over Bituthene 1000HC membrane 40mm cement mortar screed to be laid. After sufficient curing of screed, foundation works are to be carried out.
- Once the foundation, column, stub curing is over, Bituthene 1000HC is to be extended up to the beam bottom, the vertical sides need to protected by bituthene impregnated hard board of 3/3.2/4 mm thick and horizontal surfaces covered by 40mm cement screed.
- After backfilling and compaction, ground beam works to be taken up. Once ground beam concrete is cured, Bituthene 1000HC membrane is to be extended to ground beam level and sides to be protected by Bituthene impregnated hard board of 4 mm thick. The joints between the ground beam and slab is to be racked up to the correct depth, before applying the sealant and a bond breaking tape or other approved alternate shall be inserted in the joint to prevent adhesion of the sealant to the joint filler.
- Joint faces shall be primed before applying the sealant in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
