3. HEALTH  AND  SAFETY

  • Strictly followed as per the manufacturer’s Health and Safety recommendations for handling and use of the materials.
  • Ensure all involved personnel shall be aware of the same.
  • Specific safety measures have to follow as applicable, and all the safety measures are covered separately in the project safety plan.

4. OPERATION

  • Material:
  • Material used will be as approved by the Engineer.
  • The sizes and routes routing will be as per the approved Shop Drawings.
  • Storage and Protection:
  • Deliver components parts to site, completely identified in accordance with shop and certified CAD Drawings prepared for this work.
  • Store in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions, above ground, properly protected from the weather and construction activities.

5. INSTALLATION  and  fixation

  • Pre-Installation:
  • The delivery vehicle will be parked in the loading area; the equipment will be unpacked removed from vehicle using the tail lift.
  • Verify compliance between type label on reverse side and system ordered.
  • Check input and output voltage.
  • Copy the type label data to label copy below for easy identification of the system.
  • Use a fork lift or pallet to transport the system to installation site.
  • Open UPS doors and unscrew metal straps mounted on front cover of UPS.
  • The UPS equipment will then be moved into position using scoots and pallet trucks.
  • The batteries and stand will be moved into the UPS room using pallet trucks.
  • Installation for UPS:
  • All parts are accessible from front or top of UPS.
  • Identify and check against delivery note all batteries, links and cables are sufficient and correct.
  • Study the installation guide and layout drawings supplied by the manufacture.
  • Attach incoming and out-going cables to terminals.
  • Always keep AC, DC and communication able separate.
  • Follow the installation guide for power and communication cable entry.
  • Use commercially available approved solderless lugs for the wire size required for your application. Connect wire to the lug using appropriate tool.
  • Input, output and DC cables are routed in separate conduits.
  • Verify all power connections are tight.
  • Verify all control wire connections are tight.
  • Verify all power wires connections have proper spacing between exposed surfaces, phase to phase and phase to ground.
  • Verify that all power & control wires are run in individual, separate conduits.
  • Installation for Battery:
  • Load new batteries paying particular attention to placement according to diagram and polarity.
  • Connect positive and negative feeds to the start and finish of the string
  • Connect one of the centre links and note the voltage and polarity.
  • The installation of batteries requires battery knowledge and should only be carried out/supervised by qualified electricians familiar with batteries. Keep unauthorized personnel away from batteries.
  • Avoid rough treatment and opening of batteries. Released electrolyte is harmful to skin and eyes, and may be toxic.
  • During installation, remove watches, rings, and other metal objects.
  • Use tool with insulated handles.
  • Wear rubber gloves and boots.
  • Do not leave tools or metal parts on top of batteries.
  • Disconnect charging source prior to connecting batteries.
  • Determine if the battery is inadvertently grounded. If inadvertently grounded, remove unwanted ground source. Any contact with grounded batteries may result in electric shocks. The likelihood of shocks will be reduced if grounds are removed during installation and maintenance.
  • After installation of UPS, Engineer-in-charge shall check the complete works and complete the Inspection checklist for UPS installation works.
  • Engineer-in-charge shall arrange and request for inspection with the Owner’s representative M&E Residential Technical Officer (RTO) using approved Main con Request for Inspection (RIN) form.
  • Commissioning:
  • Check the power quality of UPS output.
  • Check whether the harmonics are within the limit
  • Check the transfer time.
  • Check the sine wave composition.
  • Check battery voltage and internal resistance of each cell, including inter-cell and inter-tier connectors.
  • Check the temperature of battery.
  • Check the currents and discharge events.
  • Check the individual cell voltage.
  • Check to verify that the UPS systems are performing to manufacturer specifications.
  • Technical Assistance:
  • The installation supervising technician for the system trade shall instruct the CONSULTANT Engineer, and Construction Site Manager on the programming and correct operation of the system after the installation is completed.
  • This instruction shall be scheduled at the convenience of the staff.
  • All such instruction shall be properly recorded.
  • WIR will be issued for Consultant approval upon making sure that the installation of the system equipment’s done as per approved shop drawings and specs and manufacturer recommendations.
