1.0     SCOPE / OBJECTIVES

This Method Statement covers the installation of Distribution Boards. This procedure is to define the method used to ensure that the Distribution Boards have been installed as per the contract requirement.

    •   Manufacturers single line diagram.
    •   Load schedule.
  • ACCESS / EGRESS

Work will be carried out only when all associated works of main contractor been verified that they have been completed.

4.0       HEALTH AND SAFETY HAZARDS.

Health and Safety procedure by Main Contractor and by A&P will be implemented for this job. The responsible safety officer as per A&P procedure will do a routine safety inspection.

  1. Safety Lighting.

Safety lights will be used in case of power failure ensuring the good illumination of the working area to aid evacuation if necessary.

  • Task Lighting.

Adequate lighting will be provided ensuring the good illumination of the working area. Task lighting, where required will consist of tripod mounted fluorescent light.

  • Emergency Arrangements.
  • General: Site general safety procedures will be followed. In case of emergency the safety officer will stop the work, he will administer the emergency arrangements and he will report to assembly points as described during Site Induction Course.
  • Fire Precautions: No significant fire risks associated with this activity but general fire precaution measures will be taken as per Arabtec instructions to A&P.
  • Communication: Communication from site areas to Site Office via mobile phones issued to senior foremen. In emergency situations the users of handheld 2-way radios to be notified if deemed that this can speed up notification of relevant personnel and/or the JBR01 Site Clinic.

  • Environmental Considerations: After the finalization of the works the working area should be cleaned from any scrap materials related to the performed work.

5.0       DEFINITIONS

6.0     RESPONSIBILITIES / SUPERVISION

  • Project Manager – will have the overall responsibility of the Project for execution, quality and safety. Also he will maintain the planning progress and coordination of works with main contractor.
  • Project Senior Electrical Engineer / Site Electrical Engineer – will be responsible for the day to day activities on site, for materials, drawings, testing & commissioning. The Project Senior Electrical Engineer will report to the Project Manager.
  • Supervisor – will be directly responsible for the day-to-day job on site, for handling the technicians or any other staff assign to his area.
  • Safety Officer – will be responsible for the Health and Safety aspects on site as per the Mains Contractor and A&P Safety requirements.
  • QA/QC Department – will be oversee all the quality requirements and quality control measures for the Project in coordination with the Senior Electrical Engineer as outlined in the A&P QA Manual.
  • PROCEDURES / METHOD TO BE EMPLOYED.

SURFACE MOUNTED

  • Prepare and submit shop drawings for approval as per section 1105/SP/E-16490 of specification.
  • Prepare and submit required materials for approval.
  • Procure and deliver approved materials.
  • Offer materials for inspection to ATC/HYDER. Proceed if approved.
  • Mark and identify type to be installed in each location.
  • Layout outlines of Distribution Boards and mark location of supports. 
  • Drill holes on the concrete wall and install rawlbolts. Size of rawbolts should depend upon the size of the distribution board. – Please refer to the approved details.
  • Fix mounting bolts through the equipment and secure it in place.
  • Adjust equipment for proper level and alignment.
  • Place wires within the panel board.
  • Install Distribution Board interior making sure that wires are not trapped or damaged.
  • Install panel board front cover trim.
  • Adjust trim for proper alignment with building lines.

RECESSED MOUNTED

  • Repeat steps 7.1 until 7.5
  • After the wall chasing secure in place by concrete the back box.
  • Ensure that the enclosure has been installed at the correct height and leveled as applicable and where is applicable.
  • Fill with concrete all gaps around recessed back box (By Main Contractor)
  • Install Distribution Board interior making sure that wires are not trapped or damaged.
  • Place wires within the panel board.
  • Install panel board front cover trim.
  • Adjust trim for proper alignment with building lines.

8.0           TRAINING

8.1       Tradesmen who will be used to perform the described work will be trained electricians and assistance. If deemed necessary specific team / individuals will undergo further training by the Production / Quality Assistance Departments.

  • Toolbox talks will provide general training and awareness for each activity and also in Health & Safety matters and precautions.

9.0           WORKING HOURS

Normal working hours: 7.00 a.m to 5.00 pm

  1. HOUSE KEEPING

A&P personnel will clear work areas of scrap materials derived from their work on a daily basis ensuring a clean and healthy work environment and also to maintained free access and egress in the event of an emergency.

  1. MANPOWER REQUIREMENT & SUPERVISION

For the installation and wiring of a Distribution Board one (1no) electrician and one (1no) assistant is needed or as required to suit the project completion dated.

  1. MATERIAL REQUIRMENT

Materials requirement for this activity are: Distribution board, MCBs, rawl-bolds, screws.

  1. PLANT & EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS
  1.    General: Markers, drills, pliers, hammer, screw driver, cutter, spirit level, set of wrenches.
    1. Plant and equipment schedule: Ditto
      1.    Personnel Protective equipment:  All personnel should wear at all time safety shoes, helmet and coverall.
        1. Power: Single-phase normal power where it is needed.
          1.   Working Platforms: Stepladders as required within the specific work area.
