STEEL REINFORCEMENTS FOR CONCRETE WORKS

1.0 OBJECTIVE

1.1 Is to define the requirements for the supply and execution g Reinforcement   works for the constructions under the contract no GTC.101/ED/01 Engineering, Procurement, Installation and Commissioning (EPIC) of Ras Laffan Utilization Project –Buildings and utilities and support service Phase 1-Utilities.

2.0 SCOPE

2.1 For foundation, substructure and superstructure of buildings and utilities at Base Area, New Service Berth in Berth Area, FSO Marine and Telecom building.

4.0 PROCEDURE

4.1 Approval shall be taken for Steel reinforcements of various sizes before the commencement of concrete works.

4.2 Steel Reinforcement shall be bent accurately to the shapes and dimensions shown on the drawings and approved bar bending schedules. Bars must not be re-bent or straightened after bending. Special care must be taken that the depth of the bend is correct and that the bar when bent is not “in winding”. All reinforcement shall be bent cold.

4.3 All loose rust must be carefully and thoroughly removed from all bars before they are placed in position and bars must not be painted or oiled .All bars must be placed in the exact position shown on the drawings. Stirrups and binding wire shall be in contact with the bars , the latter being wedged out so as tighter the binding or stirrups, but no wedges must be left in. All bars must be bound together in their correct position with iron wires, so that they cannot be displaced during concreting. Great care must be taken that all bars are given their correct cover.

4.4 All the reinforcement placed in position and ready for concreting shall be taken approval from QP engineer before closing the form work/concreting.

4.5 A competent steel fixer shall be present during the whole time that the concreting is in progress.
