Related Disciplines:

  1. Cold Applied Water Proofing separate Method of Statement.

1. Preparation:

  1. Sand Bed under Floor Tiles, thickness should be maintained as necessary to obtain finish floor levels indicated on Approved Shop Drawings.
    1. Manual spreading and compaction to obtain uniform depth and distribution. Remove stones and foreign materials.
    1. Reinforcement for separation between dissimilar background must be applied:

Metal lathe 200 mm width & corner bead as specified and required.

  • Background to receive wall tiles on vertical surfaces to finished with ceramic wall tiles are to be coated with dash coat to be wet cured for a minimum of 2 days prior to setting of tiles.
    • Lightly Rinse with water prior to setting tiles.
    • Perform cutting and drilling of tile without marring visible surfaces.
    • Fit tile to electrical outlet, piping, fixtures and other penetration as shown in the shop drawing.
    • Ceramic tiles are to be soak in water for one hour prior to setting in place.

2. Floor Tiles Installation.

  1. Obtain center lines for both axis as per approved shop drawing.
  2. Floor tiles are to be set using thick wet mortar bedding on uniformly distributed sand beds. Mortar mix shall be 1:3 (1 part Portland cement and 3 part sand) Thickness of bedding shall be between (20-25mm). Each tile is to be beaten to ensure bedding of tiles.
  3. Start installing tiles in 1 direction alongside of the centerline
  4. Install tile on floor with 3mm paver tile. In wet areas provide slope to drains.
  5. Install stone threshold as per approved shop drawing at location indicated.

3. Wall Tiles Installation.

  1. Wall tiles are to set with thick wet mortar bedding on walls prepared. Mortar mix 1:4 (1part Portland cement and 4 part sand) Thickness of beddings shall range between (15-20mm). Tiles are to be beaten and set firmly in place to ensure full contact between tile back and bedding in full area of tile.
  2. Install tile on wall with 3mm paver tile.
  3. In wet area; install ready skirting with continuous joint on the applied floor.
  4. Comply prior to installing skirting with the preparation.
  5. Maintain surfaces to receive skirting to have zero joint between surface of plaster and backside of skirting.

4. Grouting

  1. Clean joint by brush to ensure that thickness of tile is clear and free of foreign material.
  2. Add 5 kg of jitotile grout to 1.8 liter of water and mix until thick creamy paste is produced; allow to stand for 10 minutes.
  3. Apply jitotile grout to the joint spaces between tiles using a sponge or soft cloth.

Work the mixture into the joints grouting the ceramics tile thickness and around the edges.

  • Remove surplus from the face of the tiles with dry cloth and run the tip as a gloves finger or a rounded piece of wood along the grouting.
  • When the grout is dry, clean the tiles with a damp sponge.

4. Cleaning and Protecting

A.  On completion of placement and grouting, clean all ceramic tile surfaces.

Remove cement grout residue from tile as soon as possible.

B. Leave finished installation clean and free of cracked, chipped, broken, unbonded

     and otherwise defective tile work.

C.  Prohibit foot and wheel traffic from tiles floors at least 7 days after grouting is

                  completed.

            D.  Provide fixed protection or other heavy covering during construction period to

                  prevent staining, damage and wear.
