Subject: Re- FIP POD Inspection Comments from the Engineer
Dear Sir,
We are in receipt of your letter No. xxx dated 15 August xxx regarding the Engineer’s comment to the First in Place POD type 1 inspected on 10 August xxx at M/s xxx (Contractor Name) factory.
Kindly find below our point wise response to each of the comments.
SN | ENGINEER COMMENT | M/s xxx (Contractor Name) RESPONSE |
1 | All gypsum wall grid corners to be completely closed and well tied | Wall grids corners are well tied. However, the profiles are curved which will always result in slight gaps that have no impact at all, and it is not possible to have it fully closed. |
2 | Tile grout workmanship to be improved | Noted. |
3 | Silicon thickness surround the wash basin to be reduced as we can and workmanship to be improved | Noted and it will be reduced to the maximum possible extent. However, it is necessary to note that the washbasin does not come completely straight which will result in various gaps sizes. This is what will guide the thickness of silicone. |
4 | Floor grouting to be replaced with epoxy grout and workmanship to be improved | Noted and replaced. |
5 | Corner interfacing between glass partition SS channel and ceramic tiles to be improved | Noted and improved. |
6 | Vanity counter bottom to be covered with MR gypsum board or marine plywood. | Noted and applied. |
7 | All MEP penetration to be properly sealed | Notedand applied. |
8 | Shower glass SS channel edge to be extended to cover the glass edge | Noted and end cap is installed. |
9 | Sealant and grout workmanship to be improved | Noted and improved to the maximum possible extent. |
10 | Access panel at the shower to be centered between glass partition and wall tile | Noted. This is a design change that will be applied on all the next PODs. It cannot be applied on the First in Place as clarified during the inspection. |
11 | Angle valve cover gap with wall to be rectified | Noted and rectified. |
12 | All MEP penetration to be properly sealed and vanity counter bottom to be covered | Refer to points 6 & 7 above. |
13 | All gaps with sanitary ware to be sealed | Noted. |
14 | Improper termination of the power wires | Noted. The current termination on the pods with caps is for cable end protection only but will improve on next remaining pods to be produced. |
15 | Concrete base to be casted with no joints | The concrete base is casted with no joints already. The concrete base was casted monolithically with the embedded angular bar. The line showing in the pod base is normal due to 2 different materials which is the embedded angular bar and the concrete mixtures. |
16 | Improper cutting of the vanity counter supporting channels | Noted and will be improved to the possible extent in next pods. |
17 | All electrical conduits to be medium duty as per the approved material NO flexible conduits to be used | Installation followed approved shop drawings. Appendix A. While flexible conduits serve better for maintenance purposes, the comment received by the Engineer is noted and flexible conduits are replaced with rigid medium duty conduits except a small portion where flexible conduits remain required to allow the minimum flexibility during any future maintenance. Refer to Appendix B for our proposal and kindly let us know if we can move forward accordingly or even such small portion of flexible conduit is not allowed. |
18 | Floor tile grout to be replaced with epoxy grout subject to the approved material and workmanship to be improved | Noted. Refer to points 2 & 4 above. |
19 | SS angle width to be increased to cover the back side of the edge | Noted. The tile edge is covered. Slight appearance of applied sealant on the other side will remain visible but tile edge is covered. |
20 | Downlight location to be shifted above the wash basin and lux calculation to be submitted | Noted. Lux calculation is submitted and approved. Accordingly, the downlight location was shifted and the same will be followed for all the remaining PODS. |
21 | Hand shower base to be properly fixed to the wall | Noted. |
We would like to inform you that the changes and comments above are all addressed on the first in place POD (Refer Appendix C) and the POD is ready except the two points below.
- Point no. 10 regarding the access panel that cannot be modified on the current POD and the same was explained during the inspection and agreed with the Engineer.
- Point no. 17 regarding the flexible conduits omission and we look forward to receive your confirmation of the revised layout attached herewith as Appendix B.
Yours faithfully,
